GM Turns Corporate Lands into Refuge for Wildlife
General Motors is transforming corporate lands at its global facilities into tailored areas for wildlife habitats.
Together with the Wildlife Habitat Council, dozens of companies, including GM, are foregoing cement buildings for a different sort of structure: the kind that house animals.
“We strive to increase biodiversity around the world at our facilities, and we have 25 habitats certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council,” said Sue Kelsey, GM biodiversity program manager. “Within these sites, 16 percent of the land mass is actively managed as wildlife habitat.”
Turning unused land into a home for wildlife fits GM’s overall goal of getting the most out of its products, recycling or reusing more than 90 percent of the waste generated.
Some of these projects find homes at wildlife habitats, including scrap Chevrolet Volt battery covers that are turned into wood duck nests. At last count, GM has installed more than 400 of these structures at designated wildlife habitat areas surrounding GM facilities, giving employees a valuable tool in protecting animals.
“The habitats on our properties wouldn’t thrive without the help of our employees,” says Kelsey. “Their work exemplifies the deep respect and appreciation our company has for the nature that surrounds and interacts with our facilities.
GM also works with local schools, nongovernmental organizations, nonprofits and environmental preservation groups to enhance our habitats and increase community awareness about wildlife preservation.

Inside look at the 2014 Cadillac ELR
Using only the energy stored in the battery, the ELR will deliver a GM-estimated range of about 35 miles of pure electric driving, depending on terrain, driving techniques and temperature. This means most daily commutes will require zero gasoline with zero emissions.

Car Care Tip of the Week: Wax it!
Nothing keeps paint looking good and protected like a coat of quality wax. Apply wax at least every six months.
Our service department just earned a great 5-star review, way to go team!
"This was my first experience with the service department and it was a
great one. The service was great and the representatives went beyond
what I expected; the courtesy and professionalism really stood out. Of
all the service departments I've been to, thus far this one is head and
shoulders above them all and I hope it will continue in this manner." -Flemming

Cadillac to Help Get DSO to Carnegie Hall! Motown to Manhattan: Orchestra returns to legendary venue for first time in 17 years!
The General Motors Foundation and Cadillac will help pave the way
from Motown to Manhattan for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra this May as
it prepares to perform at Carnegie Hall for the first time in 17 years.
The GM Foundation provided a $350,000 grant to the DSO for music
education initiatives, including its involvement in the prestigious Spring for Music
festival that showcases five symphony orchestras from across North
America. The DSO is the first orchestra invited to perform two programs
during the event.
In addition to funding from the GM Foundation, Cadillac will
transport the musicians and a number of special guests during the
week-long festival.
“We are celebrating this trip to Carnegie Hall as a symbol of
Detroit’s resilience and withstanding excellence,” said Anne Parsons,
DSO president and CEO. “We are thrilled that the General Motors
Foundation and Cadillac will be by our side as a partner with Leonard
Slatkin and the DSO under the spotlight of this important festival.”
The GM Foundation has a long-standing history of supporting the DSO
and community arts programs. Over the past decade, the Foundation has
donated nearly $1.5 million to the DSO to help bring world-class music
to the Detroit community and support the musicians who share a passion
for the city. The Foundation’s support of Detroit-based nonprofits and
cultural institutions over the past decade totals nearly $21.5 million.
“Detroit’s revitalization can be seen in the strength of the DSO,
which has long been a beacon and cultural pillar within the city’s arts
community,” said GM North America President Mark Reuss, vice chairman of
the GM Foundation. “Together with Cadillac, we look forward to the
DSO’s triumphant return to Carnegie Hall.”
About DSO’s Carnegie Hall Performances
May 7, 2013
Prior to the DSO performances in New York City, the public is invited to attend a special sendoff concert on May 7 at the DSO’s Orchestra Hall in Detroit. All tickets are $25.
May 9, 2013
The first performance will feature Kurt Weill’s ballet The Seven Deadly Sins, starring cabaret singer Storm Large on lead vocals. Originally written for Weill’s wife, Lotte Lenya, in collaboration with Bertolt Brecht, the work premiered in Paris in 1933 after Weill fled persecution in his native Germany. It tells the tale of what could be two sisters or a split personality as they set out on a tour of American cities each represented by a different sin. The ballet is a bitter satire on bourgeoisie exploitation. Also on the program are Ravel’s La Valse, and Rachmaninoff’s Caprice Bohemian and Isle of the Dead. Isle of the Dead will appear on the DSO’s third and final CD of Rachmaninoff’s symphonic works to be released on the Naxos label in 2013.

The second performance consists of all four Charles Ives symphonies, a debut for the DSO as well as for Carnegie Hall. Music Director Leonard Slatkin chose an immersion into Ives in pursuit of showcasing the strength, sound, ensemble and style that is uniquely Detroit.

Long known for celebrating American repertoire through recordings and
commissions, telling Ives’ biographical story through the consecutive
performances of all his symphonic works serves as a tribute to both
Slatkin’s affinity for American compositions and Detroit’s longtime
acquaintance with the American school. Slatkin, who considers Ives to be
one of America’s most progressive composers of his time, imagined the
four-symphony program as a way to familiarize the audience with his
style.

A few signs that Cadillac's revival is taking hold
![](http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2013/04/628x417xcadillac-ats-renewal.jpg.pagespeed.ic.7rzVFAyJsc.jpg)
Only a flatworm would not have predicted the Cadillac ATS would help increase sales for America's erstwhile luxury brand of record; however, even the best automotive oracles didn't realize by how much: The ATS fueled a 49-percent increase of the brand's year-on-year sales in March, the sixth straight month of growth for Cadillac. The momentum helped push General Motors to post a 6.4-increase in sales in March versus 2012, leading its domestic competitors.
Dealership salesmen are among the first to register the shift occurring at Cadillac. A Texas dealer related an incident in which he helped a mother affix a baby seat in a car for a test drive, explaining that as opposed to the older buyers that are still a Cadillac mainstay he's getting "a pretty diverse group that's coming through the door now" who are "younger and better educated." Aided by incentives on the ATS, Cadillac's sales are up 38 percent so far this year, overtaking Acura as the fourth best selling luxury brand, and GM stock is benefiting with incremental gains because of it. Based on early response, the new 2014 Cadillac CTS should keep things going in the same direction.
The trend at the Wreath and Crest is part of a larger sales trend happening among domestics – with other models like the Dodge Dart and Ford Fusion doing well – and overall US car sales. Head over to Bloomberg for the big picture and role the ATS plays in it.

Car Care Tip of the Week: Listen for strange noises and slippage!
Pay attention to any change in the behavior or feel of your car’s transmission – especially a delay or slippage when it changes gear. If you hear strange noises while the transmission is in operation, be sure to have it inspected right away.

Car Care Tip of the Week: Use Your Fog Lights!
These beams can cut through water vapor better than regular headlights can, says Rae Tyson, formerly a spokesperson for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Fog lights are mounted low on the grille to prevent bounce-back glare off the mist—which is why high beams are your worst choice.

Thank you for leaving us this great review, Abby!
"Capital Cadillac always exceeds my expectations. My recent visit to the
dealership was pleasant. They cater to the needs of each customer by
always going above and beyond the call of duty. One of the best
dealerships in the Atlanta area by far. This is my fifth visit to the
facility and I'm truly impressed by the caliber of service." -Abby
