General Motors Co. will debut four concept or production vehicles at the 2012 North American International Auto Show next month in Detroit.

“As Detroit’s hometown automaker, we always like to make a big splash at that show,” said GM Senior Vice President of Global Product Development Mary Barra in a release Friday. “It sets the tone for the rest of the year, and since 2012 is a huge product year for us, our brands will be well-represented in the ‘D.’ ”

Barra said one of the vehicles to make its worldwide premiere at the Cobo Hall show will be the 2013 Cadillac ATS, a compact rear-wheel drive sedan equipped with the brand’s new CUE infotainment system.

ATS marks the debut of a new rear-wheel-drive-based architecture designed for agile, quick-and-fun driving dynamics and advanced technology. The ATS goes into production next summer at the Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing.

“ATS is a crucial part of Cadillac's expansion,” Barra said. “ATS enters the biggest market segment in the global luxury car industry, both in terms of volume and importance.”

The 2012 NAIAS is open to the public from Jan. 14-22.

Last year’s show drew more than 735,000 people to see hundreds of vehicles, including more than 30 worldwide premiers.
